Funnies

Nathan twirling his hair with his finger.
Mommy: "Why do you do that?"
Nathan: "To let people know I'm crazy."

Nathan to mommy: "Patience, mommy, patience."

Daddy playing airplane with the kids.
Daddy: "There is a tornado. All planes to the table."
Nathan: "Watch out Abby! There is a tomato!"

Daddy taking a bite of Abigail's candy.
Nathan: "You don't have to take a bite of mine, it tastes just the same."

Daddy dishing out consequences for bad behavior after Nathan was having a particularly rough two days: "Nathan, your consequence is no strawberry milk for the rest of the day."
Nathan earnestly: "That's ok. You already took that away yesterday."

Abigail: "The horse is sad."

Mommy: "Why is it sad?"

Abigail: "That's just how it goes sometimes."

Grampy to Abigail: "Are you eating cereal?"
Abigail: "Popcorn."
Grampy: "You're eating popcorn?"
Abigail: "That's what I said."

Birthday Cakes and Scary Pirates

I love to make my amateur shaped cakes for the kids' birthdays. Nathan has been admiring a pirate cake at a local grocery store. He also likes the Spiderman one although he's never actually seen any Spiderman shows. Since we have some small pirate toys from Oma, and no Spiderman ones, that made the choice easy. We like easy...
Anyways, if you ever need inspiration for birthday cakes, click here and you will find some amazing cakes.

You have to admit, this is a very scary pirate!! This is Nathan's grandma. She's just great and a kid at heart.

Best Ever Fruit Salad Dressing

This ranks really high on my list of favorites for so many reason: Absolutely yummy, so very easy to make, tastes fresh like summer, only uses 2 ingredients, and on and on the list goes. It's an Ellie Krieger receipe and the original is made with peppermint. Although I don't discriminate against peppermint (well, ok, I do) this was much better without it. For those of you who are not familiar with Ellie Krieger, she's a Food Network talent who happens to be a nutrionist who makes really good food. She's my favorite. Click here to see her full salad receipe.

In the meantime, here is the quick version without the peppermint and using 7 1/2 cups of fruit of your choosing:

3 tablespoons honey
3 tablespoons fresh lime juice (This really won't work with the juice from the little plastic bottle.)
1 teaspoon of lime zest (Only zest the very top of the peel and do it before you juice it. :-) You don't want to zest the white stuff; it's really the opposite of yummy - very bitter.)

Wisk all ingredients together and pour over fruit right before serving. I left mine in the fridge overnight but am not sure that changed much of the flavor? Mmmm, Mmmm, Mmmm. So good over strawberries!

We're Reading!!!

Just a few days shy of his fourth birthday, Nathan is reading! Although the sentences consist of: Rat, Cat, Fat rat, fat cat, fat cat sat, man, an, pan, etc. this is VERY exciting! He can't hide that little smirk of pride when he's done with his homework. :-) Too cute. He already loves books so this will be a great skill for him to have.

Megan's Gift

We've been very blessed with our sister-in-law. There are many reasons why but today we'll focus on one aspect that is VERY fortunate for us: She's very good at taking pictures. It's one of her hobbies. One year for Christmas she gifted us with a very special set of family pictures that she had taken. Since we loved that gift so much, we got another one (yay for us!!!). Here are some of them taken at a local park. Enjoy.

Beautiful Abigail, aka cutiepie. Be aware, she does use her looks and cuteness to her advantage!

David is a wonderful father. Just to be able to see the way his children respond to him, makes you realize how much time, love and effort he has invested in them. Nathan and Abigail adore their father and they have every reason to.

No one can make me laugh like my husband.

Precious little man. Don't you just love those dark eyes. And yes, in case you were wondering, they are an exact duplicate of his dad's. :-)

Nathan telling Megan a spooky story. You should hear the way he tells it. Priceless.

Sunshine

Isn't sunshine just one of the greats that God created! Yep, that's an exclamation mark, not a question mark. :-) It just makes me instantly happy when I get up in the morning and sunshine is peeking through the blinds. So much easier to get up with a smile. And guess what, over here it's sunny today! Thank you, Father.

Blessed

Mother's Day supposedly is for fathers and children to show how much they appreciate the mother. Today I realized it is also a reminder for me how precious those I take care of are. It's a reminder that even though there are tough days (and believe me having a 3-year old testing his limits while the 2-year old starts the "no, I won't!" phase makes for tiring days sometimes); life is beautiful when you are blessed enough to have those around you that you love. I thank God for giving these beautiful moments as gifts and even more so for granting me the ability to see them as such. I pray that I will always remember these gifts, even if life should be much harder some day.

My Bible quote calendar for today. David taped it underneath the serving tray so that it would be revealed after the food was taken off. How thoughtful.

Honestly, if you get woken up with the beautiful platter below, how can your day possibly turn out bad?
Taking Grandma to the park.

Just want to smootch you!

Apparently this is the new way to swing.

Throwing anything in any body of water is a favorite among our children. This enormous branch into the local lake was especially pleasing to the little boy.

Somthing about this picture with her little bear under her arm that moves me.

Abigail loves doing things with her eyes closed lately. Among them: walking. That hasn't worked out to well for her. She's bumped into various walls, fallen off a wall she was on and tripped multiple times. Apparently she's a slow learner on this subject...

It was just a perfect day and the kids although they hadn't napped, found peace out here. So did David and I. Below: A boy and his daddy walking onto a tree over the lake.

I wish this would have come in better. My two handsome men.

Who's got the life here? Princess in her carriage, being pushed by her most loyal subject.

We got to see a lot of really neat and interesting things. We dug up some rolled up bugs and worms, saw a milipede, a bull frog, a wood pecker and all the work he's been doing, what he was after (some really BIG ants in a tree - termites?), pretty flowers, some nest of something in the water, a snail (Nathan kept wanting to touch the slimy part - such a boy!), a duck (much to Abigail's delight), ferns and dogs (again to Abigail's delight). It was just an overall great day with fabulous weather. But none of the above animals was as great as what happened below. Although we see these eagles quite often, we saw this bald eagle flying in from over the trees and dipping down onto the lake. He did catch the fish. Amazing. What precision.

Seeing that reminded me of Isaiah 40:31:
But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

Little Princess Castle

When you have little ones it seems to take forever to move into a home. I've been trying to finish little projects here and there and am admittedly not the most organized about it. However, I have finally finished Abigail's room, probably the first room in our house to be completely done! Hurray! Here is the little angel's room:

Look at all those hats! Thanks to Oma who likes to spoil her little girl. Abigail loves hats and bracelets. I bought the big shelf broken at a garage sale for $2. It took me a while to fix and paint it (not the actual job of doing it but just getting to it).

Watch closely and you can see the bracelets. :-) Hundreds.

See all those cool German baby doll toys? The pink thing hanging is a baby bed that can be carried. The other pink thing hanging is a baby doll back-pack carrier. Neat.

$1 clearance shelves. Cool, uh? :-)

Mutti, die Engel sind von dir:

Fallen angel picture:

Blanket belongs to my little brother Matze when he was a baby. :-) (Matze, deine Kinder Decke) Abby calls it her doggy blanket.

Broken baby bed my mom found and had a friend refinish it. It even has "Abigail" written on it in the bear's drum.

Look at the adorable baby doll high-chair next to the closet door!

Nathan and Abby-isms

Funnies first. :-)

Nathan: "I don't want to wear my cape outside because I might fly away." You knew being a superhero wasn't easy....

Mommy: "Nobody in here could carry daddy"
Nathan: "Jesus could!"

Nathan after watching Winnie the Pooh:
Mommy: "Nathan, stop yelling at Abby."
Nathan: "But I like to do that."
Mommy: "Abby doesn't know your playing."
Nathan: "But that's what Nathans do best!'

Nathan gently hitting Abigail.
Uncle Chris: "Don't hit Abigail."
Nathan: "That's how I get exercise."

Abby-isms:

"I hurt myself - Kiss it!"

"Wah - I'm the baby."

"Who goes there?"

"I just Abigail."

"I wanna do by selves."

"Quesadijaja" and "flour tortillajaja"

Nathan-isms:

"You realize...."

"I don't wanna flush the toilet. It's too loud."

"Put me in time-out!"

"I wanna have a hug."

"I love you."

Sweet Things:

Nathan: "Mom, I wanna be like you. I wanna look out for people."
