A book scratched Abigail's eye while she was reading.

Abigail: Mommy, put a band-aid on my eye. (Wailing.) I want (more wailing) a band-aid on my eye. (Sobbing)
Mommy: I'm sorry, Abigail, I can't put a band-aid on your eye. It would hurt you even more.
Abigail (very upset): Get a new eye! I want a new eye!

Things That Make Me Smile

Abigail figured out a new use for her butterfly hairclips. They make excellent accessories on all sorts of clothing. They are butterflies after all, they fly.

Abigail's collection of friends, all neatly sitting next to each other at the bottom of our steps. Don't you just love walking by one of those things your kids do? Just her little friends all in a row, waiting to greet whoever walks by.

The butterfly clips are a favorite lately. Here they are ALL worn at the same time. You have to admit, she can totally pull it off.

Deliciousness in a Tub

Found a receipe recently that sounded interesting. You can find the original here. But the original uses Ricotta cheese which no one in my family is really fond of. Also omitted the pistacchios as we didn't care for them too much in this receipe. What to use instead of ricotta? I was going to get mascarpone and mix it with honey. But then... I saw it... There it was in the deli case, my newfound food love: Coffee Mascarpone by BelGioioso. Not sure what to expect, I opened the tub for a taste as soon as I got home and let me tell you, it was going fast. Instead of making something out of healthy figs, I ended up just using the figs as a medium to get the mascarpone in my mouth... Ladyfingers would probably do well too. It's all natural and so good. Anyways, so the new receipe (ignore the pistaccios in the picture) is just to cut figs in half (remove the stem if it's still on them) and then top with coffee mascarpone. Yum!

A little while ago I made a commitment to better table scapes. Here's an update on that with another thanks to the Apples of Gold program (seriously, if you haven't been, you need to go!).

A Fun Family Day

Days where we stay home and do fun stuff at home are always great. Last weekend we did just that since the weather wasn't very good at all. We decided to have a coloring night. :-) It was actually fun and us grown-ups got really into it too. We made home-made pizza and had all sorts of fun. I love family fun nights!

Nathan likes Toy Story a lot. David found this customizable printable story book online. He put our names into it and we put it together for Nathan who was very excited.

We've been experimenting with our own pizza dough. If anyone has a good receipe, let me know! Abigail was helping me make pizza while the guys were still coloring. She had a great time helping me but had an even better time sampling everything. :-) That's my girl!

This girl is trained the right way! :-) She cleans up after cooking.

More digital coloring this time.

Potty Training - Part Two (or the Second Child)

We've decided to give potty-training Abigail a try. I'm not very fond of potty-training. If it was up to me, our children would be in diapers for a long time; most likely until they were old enough to make the conscious decision to no longer wear diapers. Diapers never bothered me. They are easy.
Either way, today's day number one for Abigail out of diapers. We've had two accidents, woke up wet from naptime and also used the potty successfully multiple times. Abigail is super excited about her Minnie Mouse undies, which I have to admit are too cute. I let her pick which one she wants to wear and although she only has 6 or less choices, she wants to wear them all. Maybe the accidents aren't "accidents" at all but merely a way to wear all her new undies.....
Wish us luck and pray for an easy-to-train child.

06/12/10 Update: We've decided to wait a little longer for the little girl as she doesn't seem to be able to do it at this point. Better luck next time.

Breakfast Yummies

Here's what you'll need:

1/2 cup cooked quinoa, preferably warmed
6-7 frozen cherries that are thawed in the microwave and therefore slightly warmed
1 Tablespoon sliced almonds
1 teaspoon golden flax seeds (freshly ground)
drizzle of honey

Combine all ingredients for a yummy, yummy and did I mention delicious and healthy breakfast. Obviously this receipe can be adjusted in oh so many ways.
Receipe was inspired by this receipe here.

Now if I could only figure out how to pronounce "Quinoa".....
