January/February Januar/Februar 2012

I've been trying to keep myself away from the internet in an effort to be more productive at home - and it is working. But... my blog has suffered. So I'm updating. Here is what has been going on:

Abigail is totally into dressing up. She dressed up one day and I told her how much I loved it and she's been doing it almost daily, never failing to ask me: "Do you love it?"
Abigail is wieder mal täglich am verkleiden.

Isabelle has become mobile! We've gone from crawling on feet (her butt up in the air and she basically walks but still has her hands on the ground), to standing for a few seconds by herself to cruising along the couch. She has also grown two teeth (bottom) and is working on her upper incisor (that's right, no front teeth yet, so we'll have a funny smile baby).

The new dynamics are constantly changing with the three kids. It is really neat to watch how Isabelle is starting to really want to play with her siblings and how she reacts to them.

A few times we went to a local park and took the bicycles with us as the weather was nice. We bought this bike for Abigail last year and it's almost too small this year. How is that girl growing so much??

What can I say? I love the man.
Was kann ich nur sagen? Ich liebe den Mann.

Nathan is a very good older brother. He plays a lot with Isabelle, always cuddling with her and finding new ways to make her laugh. Here they are hiding under the table in a "fort." See how excited Isabelly is?
Nathan is ein sehr guter älterer Bruder.

The picture is unfortunately sideways. David and Nathan went swimming a few times and David taught him how to swim. Here he is swimming under water. For some reason, he mastered swimming under water but is having a harder time swimming on the water.

David made my favorite meatloaf for us. See Twig the cat in the back? Yep, you know what he is thinking!
David hat uns meinen Lieblingsbraten gekocht. Seht ihr Twig im Hintergrund? Genau! Ihr wisst was er denkt!

We went on a few hikes as well. Here are David and Abby admiring a small waterfall. David and I both went with Nathan and he informed us that both David and I told him the same things. Great minds think alike. :-)

Nathan loves Legos now. Besides from building all kinds of Star Wars figurines and vehicles, he loves to read the Lego Star Wars Mini-figurine Encyclopedia.
Nathan liebt Legos.

Nathan has his first loose tooth on this picture! As I'm writing this, we are just hours away from it having come out. But that is another post. Now he has two more loose teeth and one new one already coming through where the old one just came out tonight.

Yet another nature outing. We've been having good weather and the kids are loving these trips. here is Abigail practicing all her will power not jumping into the water - because that is what she'd want to do.

Love this picture! Our little nature explorers, complete with binoculars. Brother and sister, through thick and through thin. They are very close at this time. I think Nathan sensed that things may change as he asked me the other day, all upset, "So does this mean that Isabelle will love Abigail more because she is a girl?"

It has been a great January/February in our house. We have been able to do a lot of things as a family. The weather has been great.
Nathan is also signed up for baseball which will start soon where dad and his uncle will coach him.
David is getting very excited about baseball season. He has not coached in many years, so this is a big deal for him. He is an amazing coach (I have both watched him and been coached by him - although I did get a fat lip twice playing catch with him....)
Abigail is reading on the same level as a Kindergarten student. She is doing awesome. She loves writing letters everywhere (so far no words most of the time). She is enjoying cooking with me and even sat down next to me while I was doing laundry. She looked at me and asked me if she could help. Of course! I showed her how to fold socks once and she did them from there on out. Love it.
Isabelle's lovely character is showing itself more and more. She is very patient, very gentle and kind and LOVES the cats. She adores her Dada. And when we picked her up from the nursery at church the other day, she was SUPER excited, waving at us, yelling, happy, happy, hopping up and down. It was adorable.
And the most bizarre thing happened the other day: I cooked dinner and put the plates on the kitchen counter to cool. When I turned around, both my kids were sitting there, gobbling it all up! From the kids who regularly complain about everything I cook! They were thoroughly amused with my perplexed reaction and because of that, asked for seconds. Yep, I'm still speechless.

Abigail, not wanting pineapple on her pizza: "I have to take the apple pies off."

Mama: "Have you guys brushed your teeth yet?"
Nathan: "No, we are being reckless."

Abigail wanting to read with her Tag instead of talking to Grampy on the phone: "Well, my Tag needs, bye!"

Nathan, dressed as a knight: "I'm wearing the golden crust (crest)."

Mama: "Who wrote the book of Proverbs?"
Abigail: "P.D. Eastman." (Author of one of her favorite books - Go, Dog, Go)

Proverbs 1:8 "... Don't turn away from your mother's teaching." (NIRV)
Mama: "What does that mean?"
Abigail: "That we can't get away from you." (Yep, we are back to reading children's bibles and I now know why there are children's bibles....)

Abigail: "How did you remember?"
Nathan: "I have great remembery."

Abigail, trying to pry Lego pieces apart: "Can you do this with your toughest finger?"

Abigail, chuckling at her own joke: "Funny. Very funny."

Mama enters Abigail's room in the morning and turns the lights on.
Abigail sits up straight and exclaims: "I'm going blind!"

Nathan telling Mama and Dada about a boy he played with by the name of Luke.
Mama: "What is Luke's name?" (Yep, they made me post this one. I wasn't going to....)

Abigail: "Then we can go to Old McDonald and get a Happy Meal." (McDonalds)

Abigail singing after Grandma gave her a singing bear: "Sugar Pie, Honey Bunch, you know the pile of you..." (supposed to be "that I love you").

Best House Cleaning Hints

I just read another one of those fabulous hints on how to easily clean something and it worked! You know those crusty burner pans on your stove? The ones that no matter how much you clean them, they are always dirty. If you put them in a gallon freezer bag with 1/4 cup of ammonia and leave them with those fumes for 24 hours, your pans come out amazingly clean! Be sure to work with the ammonia in a well ventilated area and do not mix the ammonia with anything else. Read the warning label on the ammonia. The pans do not need to be submerged, it is merely the fumes that are needed to clean your pans. I saw that the lady who posted it on pinterest also did this with her actual cooking coils but have not had the guts to try that.
My all-time favorite cleaning tip? Put a water-soaked cleaning rag in a dirty microwave and put on high for 5 minutes. Keep an eye on the rag to be sure it doesn't dry out or catch on fire for some other reason. After the 5 minutes, wait a little bit for the rag to cool down. When it is no longer too hot to touch, use the rag to wipe the microwave. No matter how dirty it was, the dirt will wipe right off. Awesome!
