Our Newest Family Member

For Nathan's sixth birthday, Uncle Chris gave him a pet.  Nathan wanted a snake, to tell the truth.  And his uncle would have bought it.  But Mama wasn't having that.  Besides, my mother, who is utterly afraid of snakes, swore she would never, ever set foot into our house ever again. EVER.  Honestly, never.  Since we love our Oma, there will be no snakes in our house.   We settled on a .........what could it be????  See Nathan's face above.  He's on his way up the stairs to meet his new......leopard gecko!

Nathan is fascinated.  Watching his lizard getting familiar in its new surroundings.

And here is the little guy.  Well, we don't know yet if it is a boy or girl.  They have to be a certain length for the boys to show spots on their underside, which indicates that they are not a girl.  Here is Abigail holding "Tiny" for the first time.

Nathan's original choice for a name was "Cutie".  He then realized it was not a very manly name.  He is hoping the lizard is a boy.  Not sure "Tiny" is a whole lot more masculine...

Tiny is very interesting. We've learned a lot about leopard geckos and as all of God's creatures, the more you learn, the more fascinating they are.  We've even watched him shed his skin twice.  The most interesting thing about Tiny?  He can drop his tail when he thinks a predator is trying to eat him.  Then the tail will hopefully fool the predator into thinking it's the real lizard and the predator will eat the tail while the lizard gets away.  The lizard then grows a new tail.  Amazing.
