Thanksgiving 2013

We've gotten bad about taking pictures.  So there aren't too many for this year in general but also for this Thanksgiving.

Beautiful girl in a beautiful gray dress.  She loves this headband.  The dress she hated.  She couldn't lift her arms without it tightening but she chose to wear it anyway, given the option of not dressing up.
Grandma made a lovely breakfast for Thanksgiving.  Her help was so much appreciated this year.  I helped with the breakfast but most of it was her handywork.  We also kept the decorations simple this year.

Nathan was excited to discover that older folks like to play the Wii too!  This was a revelation to the kids and quite a few adult/child matches were played.  And as it always is, the kids won.

All family together.  It was a very lovely Thanksgiving this year.  Even the Hendrons were able to join us.

The Hendrons are like family to us.  It is always wonderful when they can join us.  The kids especially love them around.  Nathan has loves horsing around with Dick and Abby and her fellow red-headed Hendron girl are buds.

Auntie Megan and uncle Rusty.

Dick, Nathan and uncle Chris.

Pretty little Isabelly.  She just loves family get-togethers and all the attention she gets.  So many people to play with!
Unfortunately these are some of the only pictures we took.  Maybe we'll do better next year.  Doubtful, with a new baby.....  :-)

Happy Birthday, Abigail

Yes, yes, this post is a tad bit late...  Hey, it's the holiday season and that is my excuse!  This year the redhead had a great birthday.  She at first wanted a blue party (her new favorite color) but then decided on a Tangled birthday.  Since she had already wanted that last year, that's what we did.  Pinterest was full of ideas!  And most of them reasonably priced.

No birthday is complete with a dog hug....  This was the first birthday where the redhead had to go to school.  At school she got a beautiful crown, some treats and got to bring treats.  She decided on fruit kebabs.  At first she wanted something else (can't remember) but with all the food allergies, she was excited to get the fruit sticks.

This Tangled-themed and colored table awaited her upon arriving home from school  The little plates had plastic knives hot-glued to them to make them look like skillets.  A favorite weapon of the Tangled heroine.

The cake was fairly simple this year.  Nothing too fancy.

This was the sweetest gift to me:  When at Fred Meyer the day before her birthday, Nathan decided to spend ALL of his money on flowers for his sister.  He saw them and wanted them for her.  He picked out the ones that he thought she would like best.  And she loved them.

Best present #2: Built-in play date with cousins!!!

Cute little Olive trying on the birthday hat.  I've loved this hat so much and none of my birthday girls wants to wear it.  :-(

Present time!  With lots of help from cousins and siblings.

Big hugs to Olive for her original drawing.

Abigail's red-head in cahoots, Jennifer.  The two share a special bond.

Family time is the best of time.

Uh-oh!  We lost Rosie.

Abigail had a blast.  She was as always focused on the people.  She loves the presents, of course, but she is happy with whatever people give her.  I love that about our little girl.
At this age, she is still full of spunk.  She is a blast to live with and we adore her.  She is a fantastic sister and a great helper to mom.  She helps me with all things Isabelle (even taking her potty and getting her dressed, etc).  She mops and does laundry but hates cleaning her room - we trade off often where I clean her room and she does other chores.  She adores Daisy and Copper and loves her siblings and cousins.  Her favorite game is the Wii (Mariocart racing with Nathan) and her favorite past-time is still reading (especially the Berenstain Bears).  Favorite food is chicken noodle soup and drink is raspberry-lemonade.  She likes her ballet but it's not a passion yet.  She loves music though.  She goes through spurts of playing the piano and then taking long breaks.  Her coloring has become more abstract and there is less of it.  Soccer was the first sport she played this year.  Her grades are all A+ and she is ok with school.  She'd rather stay home and has a bit of a hard time leaving mom and dad.  She's become a great friend to Nathan and the two love to play board games or Wii games together.  They are getting better of playing imaginary play together but it still ends in arguments over whether or not to go to war (natural for the boy, unthinkable for the girl).  Blue is the color of her world and she still likes to dress in outfits that do not match and are very colorful.  She loves her hair short and would much rather never brush it.  Her bear is still a much-loved companion although he is not always by her side anymore.  She is strong-willed but learning to wield.  All in all, she is the sunshine in our world.

  • "Oo-tay" (Okay)
  • "How was your daytime?" (How was your day?)
  • "O-ooooo-ooooo-oria, in celsis deeee" (singing "Gloria in excelsis deo")
  • "Better not cry, better not pout" (She's really into singing right now.)
  • "Can I drink some of your tea?"
  • "Dada?  Dadaaaaa!"
  • "I'm Hannah" (After her 9-year old friend whom she admires.  It's funny because we almost named her Hannah - only the fact that our friends had a Nathan, an Abigail and a Hannah kept us from doing it....)
  • "Nee-nee.  You're mine!"  (Nathan, I love you.)
  • Whiny sound, throwing down toy.  More whiny sounds....  (frustrated toddler)
  • "Where my Abby?", followed by "Where my Nee-nee?".  Repeat a bunch of times....
  • "Can I have caaandy?" (Answer is "no.") "Can I watch Berenstin Bears?" (Berenstain Bears.  Answer is "no.") "Can I watch a movie?" (Answer is "no.") "Can I have gadoate?" (Gatorade.  Answer is "no.")  Repeat in sequenced intervals until one answer may change to "Yes."  Do not give up and be persistent.....
  • "Mamaaaa!  I need you!"  (Mostly when on the potty.)
  • "Copper took my ball!" (It is the dog's ball, yet she claims it every single day....)
  • "I don't wanna go night-night!"

One Funny:
Mama: "Isabelle, do you need a tissue?"
Isabelle: "No.  My runny nose went back to his home."

An Unexpected Christmas - A Link That You Expected...

Same as the last two Christmas seasons, just wanted to share this:

It is just such a neat little movie and my kids just love it and adore it.
Merry Christmas!

The day before the first day of school for second grade I told Nathan that I would make him a sign for his first day of school picture.
Nathan: "Do I have to?"
Mama: "Wouldn't it be nice on your picture?"
Nathan: "But do I have to carry it all day?"   (I guess we didn't specify that...)

Abigail, while sampling food: "I'm delicioused by it."

Abigail to Mama: "Figuratively or literally?"

Abigail observing: "There were 1-2 girls crying.  I heard two different cry patterns."  (Yes, the girl has quite the vocabulary.)

Isabelle: "I wear Mama shoes!"
Mama: "I'll wear your shoes too."
Isabelle: "No!  You not old enuf."

Isabelle, not wanting to eat anymore: "Dere bird poo on my plate!"  (No, there was not!)

Isabelle (talking about our dog): "Copper trying to eat me."

Abigail, while watching me make her toast: "Slither the butter on my toast."

David, wanting to know what to order for me at Starbucks: "Last time you had me order a Caramel Crapiado."

Isabelle, hungry: "I NEED MY EAT!"

As cousin Olive is leaving, Isabelle sighs: "My friend going home."

Pentatonix - Little Drummer Boy

Awesome version of Little Drummer Boy.  Nathan is still fascinated as to how the front row gentleman is making all those sounds.  I love the ladies beautiful voice (although all their voices are wonderful).
